About this place
The building began as Colégio de Santiago Maior, licensed in 1599. Physician Lázaro Doglioni acquired it in 1843 and transformed it into a theater inspired by major European houses; Teatro Lethes opened in 1845 and today is managed by ACTA.

Faro’s first cinematograph screening took place here in 1898.
Its name recalls Lethe, the river of forgetfulness in Greek mythology.
